As an update on what I've been doing lately, I've managed a bit of writing on one of my larger works in progress. I've added about 2,000 words (six pages or so). It's not much, but it's still more than I've been writing lately, so ...well, that's something, no matter how rough-going it is... Right?

Sequel to Blissful Ignorance, as Daniel comes to terms with a sad loss, danger looms on the horizon for his family from an ex who just can't let go. SamDaniel CamOC TealcShaunac. Set in the Changeling AU.

The synopsis isn't entirely accurate now that the story's moved past that, but it's all fun (well, in my deluded little world anyhow). Who knew that the Changeling universe could be so much fun to write in?

Well, not posted in a while so and the self-pimpage department appears to have slowed down... and you know how I always like to help out...

I'm up to chapter 7 on this one sofar:

What We Could Have Done
Sam comes back from Atlantis. The team attends the extraction ceremony of the last Ba'al clone, but will this be their last adventure? Missing scenes and tags for Stargate Continuum. Sequel to What We Should Be Doing. SamDaniel CamVala TealcIshta JackSara

You don't have to have read the prequel to get it. Basically, so far, Cam and Vala are married, Sam and Daniel, and Jack and Sara are engaged; and Teal'c and Ish'ta are fighting. It's just a continuation of writing around canon that I've been doing since the second half of season 10 aired.

I have to agree with what Eventhorizon7 wrote in her review. The story was very engrossing and I was pretty happy seeing the Sam/Daniel ship. The original character was great and we got to know her better.

hey, it was nice to see your post thraesja.

Don't worry about the communication delay, children work to their own timetable and rest assured they get there eventually. My friend's daughter had the same problem, they had to go to speech therapy and although it was hard work for both parties involved it paid off and she is now a very talkative teenager.

One of my girl's was late with the whole potty training, staying dry thing and i thought that i was the worse mum in the world for not being able to put it right. That's when i realised that children do things in their own time and that it would be unlikely that she would hit adulthood and still be in a diaper! Once i figured that out ( and ignored all the mum's at mother and toddler group whose babies were so advance that they practically came out of the womb on a potty) both I and my daughter were more relaxed and it came about naturally...

oh that was so good. It encapsulates perfectly what goes on in the mind of the writer, but it is also the kind of thing that goes on in the mind of the beta too.

In Canada, the primary mode of winter transportation is dog sledding, followed closely by riding polar bears.

Okay, that's a lie. Everyone knows the polar bears are dying from the effects of climate change.

My parents dogsled regularly since they got their first husky about 14 years ago. Now they have 18 huskies, and this is the first time someone's been seriously injured. Minor and moderate injuries have occured in the past, but nothing requiring surgery.

She still doesn't remember what happened, but we've been able to piece things together - it seems she hit a tree because a trail was graded in the wrong direction. So when she around that turn, the sled went flying off the trail and into the trees. The grade has since been corrected, and it seems fine now.

But she now has a shiny metal plate and all of the pieces of her clavicle screwed into it so they can heal themselves, and she's home and feeling much better. I've been spending a lot of time up at the house (their house...

Sorry gang! Same excuse as usual, I'm afraid. I didn't succeed in completing my Nanowrimo challenge, but I did finish two stories - one of them ready to post as soon as I get my act together, and one of them that needs a lot of work (but thanks to my two betas, Eventhorizon and Thraesja, for pointing and laughing at all the parts that needed it most desperately). I really need to stop deluding myself into thinking I can achieve these ridiculous challenges I set for myself...

I have a relatively quiet weekend planned, so I'm going to catch up on moderating the forum (you guys can't see it, but the spammers have flooded the place with annoyances),...

So November is 23 days old and that means I should have written 38,000 words by now, right? Um. Yeah, here's the thing - I think real life got mad at me for hiting it with that stick, and it sort of exploded all over the place. I've been cleaning up the mess since the end of the first week of November. Uck.

But, I promised to finish four stories, and I've already finished one plus rewritten the opening scene to a longer multi-chapter story to account for the massive geography restructuring I inflicted on the planet so that the rest of the story would make sense.

So...one down, just three more to go, right? Don't think I'll hit my word count goal, but I am going to make every effort to fulfill my story-completion goal.

Hope that's enough room. For me the jury is still out, if I'm honest I only watched it for the cameo's of RDA AT and MS, which were over if you blinked!

One thing I did notice was just how much RDA seems to have let himself go... was it my telly or did he look a lot more chubby than when we last saw him in Continum? If the next SG1 is going to centre on Jack's character, RDA will have a lot of work to do in order to get him looking like the Jack that we know and love, but having said that it was still nice to see him, even if his usual sarcasm was lacking.

I thought the whole tape session with Daniel was lame, almost looked like they couldn't get the actor into the studio. I kinda understand the reason behind it, but it would have been nice to see Daniel in the flesh so to speak, would have ...

I hope these awards are an incentive to continue with your wonderful writing. I hope it also acts to keep the creative juices flowing. There never is enough good Sam/Daniel stories out there.

Workywork has not slowed down. It has in fact 'slowed up' (damn, that doesn't work at all, does it?). I have, though, decided to cut back on some of the stuff I'm doing for my mental health and only do the "absolutely vitally essential" stuff for a while. I have been writing a bit - these prompts have been coaxing my muse out of hiding, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to write some non-prompt fics soon.

2 Sheppard/McKay recs

So I never really got that into SGA. I've seen a few episodes from the first three seasons and enjoyed them, but never really got "hooked" as they say.

However, there has been a recent rush of SGA story recommendations over atStargate Fic Rec and I clicked through to read a few. As such, I come bearing two shiny and hilarious Sheppard/McKayrecs:

Four Blatant Lies About Atlantis (And One Thing That's Totally True) , by sabinelagrande
Summary: Wherein aliens don't make them do it, John loves ASCII, Carson hates everyone, Weir is highly amused, and Lorne's just trying to be a pal.

The author calls this story "unbridled crack", but you know, I'm not so sure. I mean, it's pretty messed up, butbelievably so. Definitely funny. Go read it.

I liked Jonas too, but I have to say I'm not familiar enough with the character to be comfortable writing anything about him. Strangely, season six isn't one I'm overly familiar with. It's almost like a key reason for me watching the show wasn't around...very odd. I can't quite suss it out.

And 'mellowing' is exactly the perfect word to describe Selmak's influence on Jacob. Though Selmak has a temper too, I think both Jacob and Selmak complement each other nicely and know exactly what to say to keep the other one calm.

Thanks for your great feedback! I love writing Jacob/Selmak; they're a lot of fun. I hope to have a chance to write them again soon.

Hmm. I have many favourite SG-1 scenes and I'll have to peruse a list of episodes to better remember them all... But the one that has jumped into my mind right now is the scene at the end of In the Line of Duty, when Sam's in the infirmary and Daniel comes in with flowers.

You just know his eyes are all itchy and he won't get any sleep that night because he'll be sneezing from the pollen, but he brought the flowers anyway, hoping they would help cheer her up.

It's a sweet moment of early Sam/Daniel friendship.

PS: Sorry I've been so absent lately - workywork is...being a challenge.
